Frequently Asked Questions
Will my child access the same subjects as their mainstream peers?
- Yes! Specialist teachers from Key Learning Areas with SEF teachers, deliver the full range of subjects to your child.
- Students will attend lessons as a discrete class.
- If your child demonstrates aptitude for a particular subject, attendance in a mainstream class can be negotiated.
Will my child participate in sport?
- Most of our students participate in mainstream sport.
- Some students with additional sensory, communication and daily life skills needs participates in a modified Sports program during allocated sports time.
Will my child do Life skills courses?
- All courses are modified according to the individual students needs in order to engage them with relevant age/stage outcomes.
- Additional literacy and numeracy programs will be available to those that require additional support.
- Where appropriate, and after consultation with parents, students may access the Life Skills curriculum.
How will you assess my child’s individual needs?
- When your child commences they will be assessed to determine their literacy and numeracy capabilities.
- All students within SEF will have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) prepared for them in Term 1.
- This plan is reviewed in Term 3 to assess your child’s progress and to set new goals, if necessary.
- You will be asked to attend these meetings to collaborate and provide us with valuable input and guidance.
How many students will be in each class?
- There will never be more than 7 students per class, however, at times, classes for activities such as PE may be combined.
- If this occurs, there will be 2 or more teachers and the appropriate number of SLSO’s.
